Senior Imaging Scientist

We are seeking a Senior Imaging Scientist to join our highly collaborative team of imaging scientists, software developers, and scientists in medicine and biology to solve image and data analysis problems in the field of Digital Pathology. In this role, you will perform research and development activities for technology assessment, internal project collaborations, and commercial medical devices independently and as technical lead of project groups. You will devise technology and advance the team’s method portfolio in the field of image processing, machine learning, pattern recognition, and data mining.

The Opportunity:

  • Design and implement innovative algorithms to analyze histopathology images and data as an individual contributor or technical lead of a project team.

  • Design and implement analysis algorithms and software platforms for prototyping and commercial product development.

  • Optimize algorithms and platforms for efficiency, accuracy, performance, and scalability.

  • Collaborate with and lead other members of a project team to meet defined scientific and technical goals.

  • Interact in a multidisciplinary environment with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., pathologists, biochemists, instrumentation engineers, software engineers, and marketing representatives).

  • Keep up-to-date with technology advances, the competitive landscape, and job training requirements in the medical device industry.

  • Provide leadership in selecting new research directions and coordination in execution of the team’s technical goals.

  • Generate Intellectual Property for technology and applications.

  • Present results and project proposals to project partners, collaboration partners within the Roche group, customers, and at scientific conferences.

  • Provide technical direction, mentorship, guidance and feedback to others.

Who You Are:

  • You have 2 years of professional experience (Ph.D.) or 5 years (with M.S) of industry R&D experience with software development for image or data analysis algorithms.

  • You hold a Master Degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (Required).

  • You demonstrate a proven track record of technical leadership to deliver innovative analysis and software solutions.

  • You demonstrate a proven track record of publications and intellectual property generation from your own work.

  • You are experienced in design and development projects for medical devices in the field of biomedical image data analysis.

  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to review and evaluate writing of others in a multidisciplinary environment.

  • You possess the ability to build and grow teams that solve complex problems using creative ideas, state-of-the-art knowledge, and best engineering practice.

  • You have experience with commonly used Deep Learning models and frameworks (e.g., Pytorch).

  • Expert knowledge and deep understanding of image analysis, pattern recognition, machine learning, computer vision, and data mining methods.

  • You demonstrate strong understanding of software architecture for scalable high-performance systems; expert in prototyping and commercial product development languages.

  • You have a strong understanding of biomedical image data, especially pathology images.

  • You have the ability to contribute to R&D work following best practices in a regulated industry.

Preferred:

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Mississauga is 115,328.00 and 151,368.00 of hiring range. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors as determined by the company.
